In just two weeks, on December 31, China will stop accepting 24 kinds of waste from the United States. This will include difficult to recycle plastics types 3 to 7, electronics waste and mixed paper. US companies can turn to closed-loop recycling processes and zero waste goals in order to deal with this change, and many companies are doing just that. Subaru, P&G and Ford are pursuing zero waste goals to send nothing to the landfill. For instance, Subaru has been waste-free for 13 years and saves $1 to $2 million annually. It’s important to remember that being environmentally friendly also makes economic sense, as these companies are demonstrating.
