Since our first audit, ETC’s been able to show lunchroom audit results that are consistent and revealing. The data collected proves that most of the waste generated in public school lunchrooms consists of compostable materials that could be diverted away from our already strained landfills. Static piles of compostable waste pose an environmental hazard in the landfills producing methane and leachate into the environment. Conversely, diverting compostable waste to compost facilities where it could be correctly processed eliminates these hazards and produces soil amendments beneficial to the health of our environment.

The charts above show two of our latest lunchroom audits that were performed in January 2019.
