The School Cafeteria Discards Assessment Project (SCrAP), developed by the Environmental Research and Education Foundation (EREF), focuses on collecting waste quantities in school cafeterias and understanding how it is managed. Schools are able to sign up and participate as much as they are willing, by filling out waste questionnaires and completing waste measurements. EREF staff does most of the work, which both standardizes the measurements and keeps school involvement to a minimum. The project has a goal of 500 schools participating nationally, with at least 10 per state. By signing up your school, more information can be gathered on school cafeteria waste and learning how to manage waste better. Please consider joining in gathering this important information across the nation!

Every Tray Counts (ETC) has been promoting this program in North Carolina by notifying schools about this project, answering questions, and referring interested schools to EREF’s sign-up leader. If you would like more information, please notify ETC at everytraycounts@gmail.com, or contact EREF directly at SCRAP@erefdn.org.
